The American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter, awards Robert Maggio a Community Partners Grant for a commissioning and educational project with Ballet X and Andrew Jackson School in Philadelphia

The American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter announced the results of the Spring 2011 round of Community Partners Grants. An independent panel of local composers and music educators carefully reviewed the applications and made the following funding recommendations, which were unanimously approved by the ACF board. Robert Maggio received a grant for a project with Ballet X and Andrew Jackson School. "Inside the Mind of the Composer and Choreographer" involves the creation of a new ballet to be used as a vehicle for engaging directly with the K - 8 community at the Andrew Jackson School. A series of activities will give students the opportunity to participate in the entire creative process (from brainstorming before the piece is written to considering the work-in-progress to rehearsals and the final performance). Composer Robert Maggio and choreographer Matthew Neenan and Co-Artistic Director Christine Cox will teach the students about composition and choreography via lectures, demos and "hands-on" workshops. The new Neenan/Maggio ballet will premiere at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia, November 16-20, 2011.
