Orchestra 2001 commissions Robert MaggioOrchestra 2001 commissions Robert Maggio to compose a new work for soprano Laurie Heimes and orchestra. To celebrate Samuel Barber's legacy, Orchestra 2001 has commissioned West Chester University faculty member Robert Maggio to create a new work inspired by Barber's "Knoxville Summer of 1915". Maggio has selected lyricist Mary Liz McNamara to collaborate with him on a series of songs exploring the joys and anxieties about becoming a new parent. The songs are to be premiered at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia on May 22, 2010. The piece will also be performed at Swarthmore College's Lang Concert Hall on May 23, 2010. |

Network for New Music commissions Robert Maggio as one of 25 composers to participate in their 25th Anniversary Celebration.Network for New Music commissions Robert Maggio as one of 25 composers to participate in their 25th Anniversary Celebration. Artistic Director Linda Reichert has invited 25 composers to write variations on the storied Diabelli waltz. These variations, together with a finale written by Network conductor and composer Jan Krzywicki, will be performed at a celebratory event capping an exceptional 25th anniversary year on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 7:30 pm. |
